Hi everyone!
We made the deadline today with 30 minutes to spare, and Jessica drove like a maniac to the dropoff point at Mangia Pizza on Guadalupe, ran over the curve doing an impomptu u-turn in her beautiful truck with Richard and Gary hanging on for dear life in the back seat.. I was thinking along the way, oh man, all we need is a speeding ticket . . we could say one of us is having a heart attack, but if we got a police escort to the hospital it would be in the wrong direction! And Poor Richard somehow did not get the message that the deadline was 7:30 instead of 7:00, so he was willing to take on any bet that we wouldn't make it - we should have taken him up on it! - and he was ready to strangle all of us when he found out the truth. I did tell him, but he said something like, "Sure, that's a good one!" and promptly forgot it.
One of our big mistakes (there were many) was not using the clapper to mark the beginning of our scenes - we didn't even think of it until we were through shooting, and it took us much longer to line up the two camera takes, and a couple of our alternate takes never made it into the movie. We also encountered some computer finickyness this afternoon, and for awhile I was afraid that our hard drive had crashed. Also, for some reason we could never determine, we lost the sound on Richard's voiceover of the letter from the dearly departed although everything else on that track worked fine, and even thougn we re-imported it over and over and pushed every button imagineable and even checked the instructions (always the last resort), we could NOT correct the sound problem on that one piece, so we had to backtrack to our backup (fortunately we had one!) so a lot of our final edits never made it into the movie, durn it.
Just about everything we did from sound to paperwork could have been done better, but we did our best and we learned a heck of a lot! With another hour our movie would have been much more polished, but considering the time limitations and the frustrations we encountered, we are nevertheless very proud of our first effort.
We so very much appreciate the contributions of time, effort and a few donations that we received from so many of you, and we regret that we didn't have a slot for everyone who wanted to be involved.
We will throw a wrap party sometime after July 1st, and we will give a DVD of the movie to everyone there. In the meantime, I am toast after the past few nights and I'm hitting the hay!
Thanks again for all your hard work.
Helen

OK, we now have the specifics of what our movie will be about!
Genre: Road Movie
Character: Mile or Millie Turner, Trainer
Prop: Fishing rod or fishing pole
Line of Dialoge: "How did you know I was here?"
We are mulling over the plot, but it looks right now that it will involve Richard's hot rod gang, and they make a trip to the a victorian house (The Wright House) to comfort the ex partner of the dead found of the hot rod club.
Stay tuned!
Friday, June 22, 8am.
Richard Haas, our Director, and I had a tough time sleeping past 4:30
AM but we made ourselves do it! Our camera man, Kurt Graber, will come
in from Dallas this morning and we will review all the equipment. The
writers and head crew members will gather together by 6PM or so to begin
our mad journey as we wait on to see what genre we draw out of the hat.
It's gonna be fun!
